Czech this out.

I promise I have other things to talk about than my cat.  But come on . . . she's pretty cute.

Pictures coming SOON with some projects I've been working on.  I actually got to make some stuff that isn't related to Christmas!  So it doesn't have to be a secret until next weekend!

Her name is Soso.  The name comes from a long line of family names on the Connelly side of the family.  Her grandmother was Friendly, her mother is Oh So Friendly, and Joshua's grandfather consequently named her So So Friendly (more friendly than Friendly, but less friendly than Oh So Friendly).  Two of her siblings are also named More So Friendly and Less So Friendly.

Her interests include: meowing at all hours of the night, being cuddled and coddled, chasing bits of lint across the floor, walking all over my face while I'm trying to sleep, wrestling matches with her carrier/bed and pouncing on imaginary prey.

Family resemblance?  I think so.

I have been sewing SO MUCH lately.  Unfortunately, I cannot post pictures of any of it because all of the projects have either been Christmas presents for my friends and family, or orders that are meant to be Christmas presents.  I have been doing my best to thoroughly document all of the projects and will be posting them after the holiday season to avoid any surprise-ruining.

In other news, I got my hair re-permed today.  I thought about posting a picture of the ridiculous, poodle-like frizz-curl hybrid I've got going on, but then I though to myself, "Self, there are already several more than a little embarassing pictures of you on the internet.  Do you really want to make that tally several + 1?".  So I thought better of it.  However, I will be sharing a photo of my new do sometime after Sunday when I can wash and properly style it after the mandatory smell-like-a-perm phase.

Until then, enjoy.

I found this owl charm at the crafts store last week and thought it was cute.  It was cheap so I picked it up thinking I would just slide it onto one of the chains I already had.  I got home to find out that it wouldn't fit (the loop at the top was too small) so I would have to go back and get a bigger loop to put on the top, and probably a chain to put it on as well.  The sewing machine necklace next to it was what got me started loving brass jewelry.  It's from Red Velvet and I LOVE it.  So cute, and I have gotten so many comments about it :)

While I was at the store this evening picking up the supplies for the owl necklace, I got some chains, loops, and clasps to try out an idea I found online early last week.  I.  Love.  Them.  The autumn colored necklace will be added to the shop shortly, but the silver one is a gift (sorry!).  However, I LOVED making them, so if you wish you order one I would LOVE to make you one with your own personally selected colors.

I think I rather like jewelry making, it has a nice "instant gratification" factor that sewing does not always include. ;) Please do not forget to leave comments on your favorite fall/winter products on the facebook page!  I'm in the process of decided which direction to go with the new merchandise I'm making (what fabrics to use, which products to make, etc.) and would appreciate ANY feedback I can get  :)  Thanks guys!

Today has been one of those days.  I've been tired, cranky, and overwhelmed with all of the things that I have to get done this week.
-Write a blog for the Baptist Women in Ministry board that I have recently been added to
-Work on the music for my brother's wedding that is THIS WEEKEND
-Keep up on my homework (papers, websites, design work)
-Clean the apartment and pack for this weekend
-Prepare Bible Study for my job at FBC
-Try to plan an outing for The Gathering at FBC
The list goes on . . .

However, I was reminded earlier, while cruising facebook, that this weekend is going to be more than just a wedding.  I get to see SO many people that I never get to see because of distance.  I can't wait.

In celebration of this newfound knowledge and recognition that today pretty much sucked, I have decided to take this evening, while Joshua is at work, and watch the new episode of Dexter, eat some yummy food (the homemade equivalent of an egg McMuffin Mmmm), and chill out.  I will probably work on some small things on my To-Do list, but mostly I'm going to relax and enjoy myself.

Update coming soon (probably tomorrow) with pictures of some new journals I'm working on :)  I think you guys will like them.  They're pretty awesome.  Don't forget to check out the new photos on the adorkable facebook page!  What is your favorite new item?  Any suggestions for things you would like to see?  Don't hesitate to leave a comment on here, the facebook page, or send an email to adorkablecrafts@gmail.com :)

Thanks for reading!

I had the most lovely time today with Miss Hannah (my old roommate) and Kait (Hannah's new roommate).  They are both absolutely gorgeous and also absolutely sweet, and we had a wonderful time taking some pictures of new merchandise, as well as a few old pieces that have migrated to be a part of my newly forming "Fall/Winter" collection :D  There will be more Christmas/Holiday pieces added later, but for now this is what I have to work with!  Check it out!  More photos available on the Adorkable facebook page, which can be "liked" in the sidebar of this blog :D  Thanks for stopping by!

Joshua and I are doing our best to eat healthily.  Sometimes succeeding and sometimes ending up at Taco Bell at 11:30.  You win some, you lose some.  However, when we win, it is usually associated with a lovely blog called Broke and Healthy.  This blog is the product of a woman who wants to prove that just because you don't have money doesn't mean you have to eat like crap, which is a common misconception of a LOT of people now-a-days (yes, Joshua, I know that's not a word).

Here is one of our favorite recipes that we tried a week or two ago.  The title is more than accurate.

This picture is from our own personal experiment that we both LOVED, as did our friend Matthew.

TIPS:
-You may want to add some form of liquid (I used skim milk) in order to get more of a "soup" texture and less of a "warm guacamole" texture
-Add whatever spices you like.  I used chili powder and paprika in ours because we like a little spice.  It worked out nicely, but you may not like those flavors.
-Even if you don't like guacamole or avocados, I would recommend giving this a try.  From what I hear it's delicious even to those who did not previously like avocados.

Bon apetite!  We have a Halloween party tonight and I cannot WAIT to unveil my costume :)  It's going to be pretty awesome!

Last weekend Joshua had class in Kansas City, and Trinity (who can be found here in a professional capacity and here in a more personal sense) was having her bachelorette party in Columbia on Saturday.  Joshua dropped me off with my parents on his way to KC and I got to spend a couple of days with my current family and my soon-to-be sister-in-law :)  That's a lot of hyphens.  Here's what came from the fun!

Paige and I spent some time together while watching Madelyn play some softball with her new team!
Paige gets really excited about Dunkin' Donuts.

We're pretty cute.

So is she ;)

I don't have any pictures from the bachelorette party because I was too busy having fun and laughing until it hurt to worry about using my camera.  I will share some pictures when the girl who was responsible enough to take pictures posts them to facebook ;)  Pictures from the wedding coming soon too!  It's on the 6th!  I can't wait!

Joshua and I haven't been able to spend a whole lot of time together lately because he's been so busy with working on two degrees and working and I have class and several jobs, as well.  We decided to take this morning, before he has to go in to work, and have a little stay-at-home date.  Those are my favorite kind :)

We got the movie "Dead Man" earlier this week from Netflix and have been very excited to watch it.  It's a film from 1995 starring Johnny Depp and it is . . . quite strange.  We first discovered it from a sound clip that was featured in my favorite song from one of our favorite bands, The Illalogical Spoon.  The song is called Who's the Cowboy Now? and it features an audio clip from the movie, that I quickly recognized as Johnny Depp's voice (I have a *slight* obsession).  We looked up where the clip came from and were very intrigued by the movie.

It was wonderful!  Check it out.  However *DISCLAIMER* it's really weird.  Just so you know, in case you're not into that kind of thing.

Other actors that can be seen in this film: Alfred Molina, Billy Bob Thorton, William Hurt, and Crispin Glover.  I highly recommend it.

More work on some projects tonight!  I'm hoping to finish up "The Beast" aka the huge quilt I started several weeks ago as well as get a start on several custom orders that have been sort of slow going.  Thanks for reading!  Another update coming soon whenever I can get some of those projects wrapped up :P

xoxo Alyssa

*EDIT* It is not actually William Hurt, it is John Hurt.  Also, the entire soundtrack for this movie was made by Neil Young sitting in a studio, watching the movie, and improving on his electric guitar to fit what he was watching.  It's QUITE brilliant.

I figured out what I'm going to be for Halloween.  I'll give you a hint:

It's gonna be good.  That's all I have to say ;)

Have you figured out your costume, yet?

I will paint my fingernails tonight.  Color of choice:

OPI-Ski Teal We Drop.  Oh yeahhhh.

I painted them last week and used this color:

OPI- Teal is the New Black
I have gotten SO many compliments on it.  It really is a lovely color for fall :) (appears on nails a little darker than it looks in this picture.)

I have one more that I want to use sometime soon :)

It's called "You Don't Know Jacques" *giggle*giggle*
I found it under this lovely lady's suggestion and I can't wait to try it out :)  I'm so pale that if I try and wear colors that are *too* dark, sometimes I look a little pasty. haha.  I think this one is juuuuuust right :)

Sort of a silly post, I know :)  Sometimes I just get really excited about the little things.  I'll be back in a few days with some new recipes, HOPEFULLY a finished quilt, and some recent showcase orders :)  Thanks for reading!
